Where do you want to Go To?
Go To Tool (v1.2.0)
Go To Tool Lite (v1.2.0)
Go To Tool Demo (v1.3.0)
Go To Tool is a webOS application for creating, sharing, managing and finding GPS locations. A Go To Tool waypoint marks the latitude and longitude that represent a point on the surface of the Earth. You can import waypoint lists (Geocaches, GPS Tours, Landmarks) or create new waypoints wherever you are (Parking Spot, Beach Spot, Campsite, Trailhead, etc.). Features built-in Go To navigation (follow the arrow) and integrates waypoints into Google maps for satellite view and driving directions. You can also send locations by email or messaging.
Please Note:
- This application uses webOS's location services.
- GPS is most accurate outdoors.
- Your direction can only be found if you are moving steadily at a minimum speed.
Quick Location
Go To Tool opens to the Quick Location screen and begins to get a GPS Location. You can quickly tag the location as 'Car', 'Metro', 'Hotel' or 'Other' and once your location is found by GPS you can Save the location or Send by email. Tap on a saved location in the list to open it in Go To mode to navigate back to that location. In Go To mode you can re-send the location (by Email or Messaging) open it in Map view (Satellite or Driving Directions). The back gesture will close the scene and reveal the Map & List View.
Map & List View
Go To Tool stores a list of waypoints in it's database and presents them to the user as both a point map on the top of the scene and as a scrolling list continuously sorted by distance below. Tapping a waypoint in the list will open the Go To scene with that waypoint as the focus. There are buttons to access the Quick Location and Add Waypoint scenes and you can use the menu to Import Waypoints, show the GPS Console scene and show the preferences scene.
Go To
The Go To scene features a compass dial and needle that will guide you to your destination. AS YOU MOVE, the compass dial will rotate so that the N points North. The needle will rotate to point you in the direction of the waypoint. The distance to the waypoint is listed in the header next to the waypoint Name. Follow the arrow and watch the distance decrease until you've found the waypoint! Buttons at the bottom of the scene allow you to launch Maps (see below) and if the waypoint has a URL there is a button to view the Detail in the browser. In the menu you can also Send the details of the waypoint via Email or Messaging.
Maps Integration
The Go To scene also contains buttons to launch the active waypoint into the Maps application on the webOS device. The Sat button will open your waypoint in Maps in satellite view at the maximum zoom level for a Bird's Eye view. The Nav button will open Maps with driving directions from your current location to the waypoint. Spiffy!
Add New Waypoint
The Add New Waypoint scene let's you mark where you are or where you want to go. When the scene loads it will find your current location and pre-populate the GPS coordinates. Add an optional name ('Car) and description and tap Save. You can also enter any latitude and longitude coordinates you find on the web, in a tour guide, etc. to create a destination location. After you save the scene will close and the new waypoint will be there in the List View.
Import From File
You can obtain files that contain lists of locations from many sources: bike trails, winery locations, famous landmarks, geocaches, etc. See GoToTool.com for sources. First, use 'USB Drive' to put *.loc or *.gpx files on the media partition of your webOS device. Then, select Import from the Menu in List View to import waypoints from those files. The Browse button allows you to select the file to import, the Import button loads the waypoints for preview and the Save button will add the waypoints to the database. You can limit the number of waypoints to be imported from 0 to 500 (100 for Go To Tool Lite). If you import multiple files you can get more than 500 waypoints in the database.
Notifications (not available in Go To Tool Lite)
When the app is miminized from List View a Dashboard Notification is created similar to the way webOS creates a notification for a new email or text message. The Go To Tool notification lists the nearest waypoint and the direction and distance to it along with a 50x50 pixel 'point' map of the nearest waypoints. This data is all updated as you move. When the app is minimized from Go To view a Dashboard Notification is created that shows the name, description and distance to the selected waypoint as well as a mini Go To display with heading dial and direction arrow indicating which way to go to get to the waypoint.
Alerts
In Go To mode when you launch satellite view, driving directions or waypoint Detail a Popup Alert is created similar to an appointment reminder. This alert shows the name, description and distance to the active waypoint as well as a mini Go To display with heading dial and direction arrow indicating which way to go to get to the waypoint. The alert will remain on the screen below the map view so you can simultaneously use the Go To display and the satellite, nav or detail view. If you switch to another application while in Go To mode and you come within your customized alert distance, the Got To Go To Alert (not available in Go To Tool Lite) will show you where to go without making you lose your place in the other application.
GPS Console
GPS Console is designed to give users a view into the controls a developer has when consuming GPS data. There are 3 input parameters (Accuracy, Maximum Age and ResponseTime). You can choose to get a single fix or start continuous tracking. If you have a location fix you can use the Address button to find the address associated with those coordinates. The raw data from each 'fix' is saved in a list that you can scroll through and examine. The Clear button clears the list of fixes.
Preferences
- Units can be shown as Metric or English
- Coordinates can be shown as DD MM.mmm or D.hhhhh
- Quick Location can show at launch or not, can auto-close after a certain time and can auto-save on timed close.
- Map & List View has settings for Refresh Interval, # of Map Points, # List Items, Show Track or Not, # of Track Points.
- Dashboard Notifications can be enabled or not (not available in Go To Tool Lite) and the number of Dashboard Map points can be configured.
- Popup Alerts can be enabled or not (not available in Go To Tool Lite) and the distance for alerts can be configured.
- Compass dial showing heading can be locked out if GPS is erratic. Then you hold the phone so N points North.
- (for Geocachers) Can show or hide 'found' caches in nearest search (in Add scene).
Geocaching
There are some additional features in the application for Geocachers:
- In the Go To scene there are buttons for Details and Log View where a tap will open the respective pages on Geocaching.com focused on the active Geocache (buttons are inactive if link information is not found).
- In the Add New Waypoint scene there is a Near button that will open the nearest caches list from Geocaching.com in the same scene in a webviewer below the coordinate entry area. Tap a cache link in the webviewer and the details are shown in the same scene so you can transcribe the coordinates (I contacted Geocaching.com and they would not let me get at their web services).?
